Bophelong Community Hospice was established in 2005 to meet the health needs of the community of Mamelodi, which local clinics and Hospitals could not meet. Our Vision is to be a centre of excellence in providing comprehensive palliative care to patients. Our mission is to offer Medically directed programme, specialized palliative care to people facing life limiting illnesses.
The Health Care programme caters mainly for those affected and infected by HIV/Aids, Cancer, respite and drugs. Since its inception, we have had over 5000 patients that have gone through our in-patient unit which currently has a capacity to house 18 patients at a time. Our daily program covers the physical and spiritual well-being of our patients.
Terminally ill patients, who are staying at their respective homes, are placed under the Home-Based Care Program, where they are offered the same program, we provide to in-house patients in the comfort of their home. Since its Inception, the Home-Based care program has taken care of thousands of people since (2005). Between January and April 2011, 480 patients had been supported by this program and this represents the peak of our capacity to provide this program to the community. We have experienced setbacks due to logistics such as transport, however, we have never wavered in our commitment to meet the community's needs.
Mothers who are unable to fulfil parental duties are able to leave their babies in the safe and a motion detector will trigger an alarm to nurses , the baby will be given the care they need.
